28/04/2016 by Ann Oslo

Jakarta is the largest city in Indonesia and is the capital of the country. Due to its size and importance, it is comprised of a wide variety of cultures, diversity, and things to do. Whether going for business or pleasure, here are some of the things you will want to do while travelling in Jakarta.

Jakarta Travel

Museums

As the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta has an endless supply of historical and cultural sights to see. One of the most popular sights is the National Museum of Indonesia. This museum was built in 1862 and has a wide variety of collections. These include jewelry, gold, Sumatran statues, and textiles. Free tours are offered in English on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Another interesting museum is the Museum Bank Indonesia which offers a look at the country’s financial history.

Food

After working up an appetite at the museums, you will be delighted to know that Jakarta has many wonderful restaurants. Indonesian cuisine offers many delicacies including curries, seafood, satay which is skewered chicken, and multiple different soups. To try some of these dishes check out Historia which also has a live DJ. For a fusion of Chinese and Indonesian food, try Angke Rest. For fresh, delicious seafood prepared the Indonesian way, check out Bandar Djakarta. For a break from Indonesian food, check out the out the rooftop bar Por Que No for some seafood tapas, a chic ambiance, and a nice view. Whatever palate you have, Jakarta offers a variety for your taste buds.

Nightlife

If you are wanting a selection of bars, cocktails, and nightclubs you are in the right place. For drinks with a view, head to the Skye Bar on the 56th floor Menara BCA or the Cloud Lounge on the 49th floor of the Plaza Building. For dancing and clubbing, check out Blowfish with its excellent selection of DJs. If you prefer a nightclub with cool lighting and a great sound system, check out Colosseum.

The Sights

Jakarta Travel

When not dancing or drinking, walk around the city to check out some the fascinating sights. Stroll down the Thamrin-Sudirman Avenue to see the impressive financial and business high-rises. There is also great shopping to be had in this area. Continue your walk to the Merdeka Square where you can go up in the National Monument for a great view of Jakarta. After the monument, stroll through the nearby park. To examine some older, Dutch architecture, walk to Lapangan Bateng. The largest mosque Istiqlal is also there. Finally, check out the President’s Palace in Old Batavia the historical part of the city.

Whether you are eating delicious food, learning about Indonesian history, or partying on a rooftop, Jakarta has a lot to do. When planning your trip, you will want to stay someplace comfortable and with a view of the harbor, for this the Grand Whiz Kelapa Gading is perfect. For simple online hotels booking you will not find a better place.
