Whether it be through no fault of your own and caused by delays, or perhaps you have opted to try and keep flight prices down using connections, long airport layovers kind of suck and it is important that before you go off on your travels that you are fully prepared to survive a layover should you need to spend numerous hours in an airport.

There are lots of different things which you can do in order to survive your layover and today we are going to give you just a few ways in which you can be getting ready for the possibility of a long airport layover, before you leave home.

Downloads

The first thing that you need to be considering is downloading a boat-load of music, movies, TV shows and games to your tablet, phone or computers. In all honesty, a long layover does provide you with a great opportunity to pass hours watching your favorite shows without any guilt at all that you should in fact be doing something more useful. I also enjoy playing games when I’m on a long layover, I love to play strategy and action games which take up a lot of time and you could even try to win some money and pass your time playing pokies.

Hotel Options

Many of the World’s biggest airports are very common for layovers and as such they will have hotels inside them which you can rent by the hour. The rates are actually very good and they will give you an opportunity to grab some sleep or a shower and freshen yourself up. Even if you will be arriving in the middle of the day, the hotel room is a far more comfortable place for you to relax in comfort while you pass your time.

Shopping

Many of the World’s airports are now far more akin to shopping malls and you can do a great amount of retail therapy during your layover. Aside for the Duty Free stores where you can buy alcohol and perfume amongst other items, many high street retailers are represented in airports and often offer some fantastic deals. Window shopping or actually buying some new clothes or accessories is a great way for you to pass the time on your layover.

Lounges

Something that is well worth investing in if you know that you are going to have a long layover is access to one of the lounges which the airlines offer. These lounges have unlimited food and drink options, comfortable areas to relax, they are far quieter than the rest of the airport and offer the perfect place to chill out in peace. If you are traveling with a major airline then enquire about the lounge options before you fly, the good news is though that even if you are not flying with a particular airline, you can still purchase access to these lounges either before you fly or whilst you are actually inside the airport.
