5 Easy Steps to a Beautiful Smile

14/06/2018 by Ann Oslo

There is so much more to having a beautiful smile than simply brushing your teeth when you get up in the morning. If you want to achieve and maintain that red carpet smile, you have to follow some crucial steps. You will find five most important ones listed below.

1. Brushing and flossing

You should brush your teeth at least two times a day – when you get up and before going to bed. Don’t be lazy about it. There are many people who tend to neglect the importance of this habit, especially the night brushing. Skipping the night brushing can have a lot of consequences because the human body produces little to no saliva when we are asleep, making it super easy for the bacteria that got in the mouth during daytime to stay inside.

In other words, make sure you never forget to brush your pearly whites before bed. Also, make sure you thoroughly brush your tongue as well, so as to lower the risk of bad breath and tooth decay. Of course, after the brushing is done, take your dental floss and evict those nasty tiny pieces that are stuck between your teeth. It won’t take you more than two minutes.

P.S. while we’re at it, you should definitely consider switching to fluoride toothpaste since this chemical is the best defense against tooth decay. Not only does it fight germs, but it also provides your teeth with a protective barrier.

2. You are what you eat

In order to keep your teeth healthy and pearly white, there is one crucial thing you must do: avoid the acidic foods. As soon as sugar mixes with saliva, it turns into acid, and that acid causes enamel erosion, which exposes dentin, allowing bacteria to penetrate into the tooth and the result is, of course, tooth decay. However, no one said you should completely evict sugars from your nutrition, no. Just take control of your portions and you’ll be fine.

Also, consider chewing xylitol gums instead of the regular ones. This substance will trick the bacteria into thinking it is safe for consumption, while in reality they won’t be able to digest it. And since it will be the only type of sugar in your mouth, all those bacteria will, roughly speaking, starve to death.

3. A dental procedure can sometimes do wonders

Sure, you should always do your best to keep your teeth clean, but some things are simply out of our hands. Let’s say you have crooked teeth or you are missing a tooth, etc. If this makes you insecure, logically, you shouldn’t hesitate to get it done. There is now a wide array of options you can choose from – porcelain veneers, braces, crowns, dentures or the all on 4 dental implants procedure that is getting incredibly popular lately.

4. Change your habits

It sure is nice to hop on your couch after a long day of work and sip a glass of red wine in your underwear while watching SpongeBob, but your teeth don’t share your opinion. You should have this in mind – if something can stain your white tee, it can stain your teeth as well.

However, don’t be radical – no one said you should cut your favorite beverages and hedonistic guilty moments out of your life completely, but take a few sips of water after your morning late, as well as after a glass of wine, or even brush your teeth if you have time and space for it.

5. Teeth whitening

There are two ways to whiten your teeth – you can do it with the help of whitening strips, or have it done professionally. While whitening strips are a more affordable, faster and an at-home solution, if you have it done professionally, the results will be much more visible and will last longer. However, there are some risks involved you should consider, such as tooth hypersensitivity, premature teeth wear, brittleness and irritation of mucous membranes.  However, that won’t happen if your teeth are naturally healthy and your dentist is an absolute professional. Still, these risks are not worth gambling with so be careful.

+ Bonus trick for makeup lovers

Have you noticed how whiter your teeth look when you put on a certain lipstick of yours? It is no accident. Choosing the right lipstick can do wonders for your smile. Next time you are doing your makeup shopping, pay close attention to the base and the undertones of lipsticks. Go with ones that are blue-based, not orange-based. The colors that are on the opposite sides of the color wheel tend to cancel each other out once they are placed together – that is how blue tones cancel out yellow ones.

Finally, make sure you pay close attention to any changes. If you notice something unusual, such as pain or bleeding gums etc., don’t hesitate to make an appointment with your dentist immediately. Take care of those pearly whites of yours – a beautiful smile is always trendy.
